[Eg0_216] Nina Kardec : NEMA

Nina Kardec has been producing electronic music since 2005. You can listen to her works like you would watch a Kenneth Anger or Stanley’s Kubrick’s movie with their shades of darkness and lights.
NEMA is a concept album about a new pagan mythology in which old gods and goddesses find their way to a source that takes the form of a primal divinity called Kahaa. This musical trip drives the listener in different spaces where nature and humanity confront each other. Harsh and dark sounds collide with the softness of drones or piano, and with various field recordings.
NEMA is a sequel to Nina Kardec’s previous album Collabs Postmortem released early 2019 by Vaatican Records. It might be followed in a few months by an album of remixes  by various artists. Fell free to contact us if you wish to participate to this project.

Nina Kardec would like to publish an album of remixes of NEMA by various artists which would be released by eg0cide productions early 2020. As usual it will be a digital only album released under a non-commercial Creative Commons License.

If you wish to participate please read the rules below :

Each artist must choose one of these 4 tracks selected by Nina :

NEMA
SONUS
PAGAN PARNASSUS
THE NUPTIAL DANCE

For each oth this song you’ll find here a zip file containing all the separate tracks (simply click on the name to download it).

– Length and styles are free
It is asked to each artists to use her/his voice in the remix. Thus the participating artists will somehow appear as “apostles” of NEMA, and extend the concept of the original album, which is about the encounter of an old mythology (greek) with a new religion.
– Deadline : 31 December 2019
– Each track must be sent in wav format to eg0cide productions : tgbts0 (at) gmail.com
PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ME VIA FACEBOOK. YES I HAVE AN ACCOUNT THERE BUT WILL CLOSE IT SOON BECAUSE I HATE THIS SITE.

Personnal note by the artist

This album is the transcription of a dream that I have been doing for over 2 years …
Every night … Every night …
The main character is Kahaa, “THE” primary deity, locked in a human avatar … contemporary,
of that which it has called in the monotheistic religions: “GOD”.
Yes it is a WOMAN. And she is a witness of our society …
And she is angry and so SAD but turned to LIGHT.
She calls ALL FORMS OF LIFE to join HER, to REVOLT, to HEAL and CHANGE THE EARTH,
with her daughter GAÏA and her CHILDREN OF OLYMPUS …
ALL DIVINE, LIVING and HUMAN CREATURES come together to create a LUMINOUS and JUST WORLD.
Here is…
NEMA.
This is Kahaa’s wish
transcribed into music.

[Eg0_215] Fred Marty : Après les Cendres

Fred Marty is a french musician born in 1970. After having studied classic doublebass, he focused on free improvisation and experimental music. He developed a personal language inspired by sounds of everyday life, expanding the known range of the doublebass by extended playing techniques and the use of various objects inserted between the strings.

He has also been playing electric bass in various contexts since his beginnings, and in the piece we release today : Après les cendres. This composition recorded in April 2019 is a study of resonances and long sounds created with a prepared electric bass.
Special thanks to Simonetta Parisi for the picture used on the artwork.

[Eg0_214] Podarces & various artists : Frozen Journeys

Under the Podarces pseudonym Benoît Rouits (who also plays oboe in Jukpic ) creates experimental improvised music with keyboards. Last year he made us discover one of his old works :  A Frozen Journey, made in 2009 with virtual synthesizers and inspired by some writings of Philip K. Dick. We enjoyed this album a lot and although it undoubtedly stands on its own we felt its minimalist abstraction could make it a very interesting material to incorporate in new works. We made this suggestion to Benoît and some other collaborators and aquaintances who agreed and accepted to contribute remixes of what is now called “Frozen Journeys”, featuring the original tracks as well as remixes by Humanfobia, Human Koala, Nina Kardec, Anastatsia Vronski, Kecap Tuyul, Nicolas Tourney, Sig Valax, Filmy Ghost, Yann Pillas, Thomas Park, Luciftias, Doedelzak.

[Eg0_213] z(xW+yV) : Trois prises

z(xW+yV) is a solo project of Kecap Tuyul started spring 2018 while experimenting different ways to generate low volume feedback with small gear. After some tries with one contact microphone and one 1W battery-powered amplifier he developped a modular system on this basis, in order to generate not only feedback, but also feedback of feedback, and feedback of feedback of feedback (…) by chaining amps and microphones in a circular way that blurs more and more the distinction between sound source and sound’s reproduction, between acoustic musical instruments and electronic sound diffusion.

Unlike its first album 3×2(1W+18V) whose 3 pieces where mixes of  2 improvisations, Trois Prises features only raw improvisations played on more complex versions of the set-up (with 3 or 4 amplifiers). Track 1 & 3 contain no edits, track 2 was edited from a longer improvisation.

[Eg0_212] Ayato & Naoki Ishida : Momenta

Ayato & Naoki Ishida have been working together by file exchange since the early 2010s. On Momenta they explore a more melodic and accessible style than on their previous releases on eg0cide( Red_control rec.played which focused on field recordings and the split album Tapes Outtakes.based on tapes manipulations). This time they ofter 14 instrumental tracks blending elements of post-rock, dub, and ambient, using many different instruments and field recordings. The compositions are smooth and catchy, but never simplistic – they deserve many listenings that will let you discover their depth and subtelties.

[Eg0_210] Doedelzak : ilypd

A few months after the lovely P8 phase 3, our regular contributor Doedelzak comes back with another longform composition using an hybrid methodology and taking inspiration from various musical aesthetics. Ilpyd is subtle and catchy, hypnotic and surprising in the same time.

Notes by the artist
Ilypd was created partially through algorithms, with a slow and alsmot imperceptible evolution. Though, there is a big change between the beginning and the end.
Although there are small internal changes, the evolution of the global structure is strictly continuous. The perception of changes (and notably the perception of acceleration) may appear intermittently as if on particular moments the listener’s mind was suddenly creating the image of a new step being crossed, but ilypd is perpetually changing.
Ilypd can be listened in one go, or on the contraty intermittently. It is not necessary to hear it from the beginning, nor until the end.
Inspiration for this work came from traditional African music, Gamelan, and Steve Reich. This is a musical material more than a composition – and I simply wanted to make this material beautiful”

[Eg0_209] Failure Circle : Melting Clinamen

Melting Clinamen was born from a small deviation from the methodology used by Failure Circle in this serie of compositions Frozen Clinamen that normally uses only sounds recorded while no human intervention is applied to the used set-up ( no-input mixer most of the time). The creation of the first track of this album followed the same rules – except that it used a recording that features some little changes created manually (this sound can be heard between 3min11 et 12m06). This is also the first release in which Failure Circle doesn’t use a no-input mixer but a semi-modular analog synthesizer, the Neutron by Behringer, with no effects except its built-in ones. Another notable difference with the past volumes lies into the way the material has been edited & mixed. The other track of the album (Frozen Clinamen #2M) follows more strictly the Frozen Clinamen methodology, but all sounds were also created with synthesizer. Thus, Melting Clinamen is and isn’t part of the Frozen Clinamen serie.

Methodology of the Frozen Clinamen serie
step (1) Tweaking the set-up until it produces some seemingly autonomously self-sustained sound sequences.
step (2) Stopping tweaking and recording for at least 20 minutes without any intervention on the set-up.
step (3) Repeating steps (1) & (2) several times.
step (4) Using the generated sounds as only source in a posteriori compositions. The only variations used while mixing are equalization, panoramics and volume levels.
step (5) play it at low/high volume with open/closed window while complety asleep / fully conscious.

[Eg0_208] Laura Cavan : Unsuspicious

Laura Cavan is a french visual artist who also works with sounds, and especially  natural ones like in her first album Unsuspicious. This project started in 2016 when Laura Cavan was studying arts in Marseille and created an installation using pieces of wood found in the area of her school (which is located close to a forest). The insertion of contact microphones in these pieces of woods allowed to transmit small vibrations emitted by its inhabitants : termites. The resulting sounds were sent in real time through headphones for the installation’s visitors.

Early 2019, some of these sounds have been selected, edited and mixed by Kecap Tuyul in for the realisation of this album. Different, light treatments (mostly equalization) have been applied to the orginal tracks, without trying to hide the recorder’s hiss nor other unwanted sounds, but rather with the aim of letting appear all aspects of the recordings in an organic way. The results don’t pretend to give an accurate reproduction of termite sounds but should rather be considered like sound pieces where the recording technology is a part of the material and not a transparent medium. As a sequel of this release, Kecap Tuyul is currently working on tracks mixing electronic sounds with Laura Cavan’s recordings.

The artwork is made of a selection of Laura Cavan’s drawings of these wood pieces which that were created for her installation.

Reviews

Review by KN, on “Yeah I know it sucks” blog
https://yeahiknowitsucks.wordpress.com/2019/06/19/laura-cavan-unsuspicious/

When I listened to Laura Cavan in a traditionally unsuspicious way, i noticed how cozy it was. From the first moments in her work I felt as if I was in the inner mechanism of a prepared coffee machine, not a cheap one but one of those luxurious ones that had the green light on, ready for a coffee loving person to place a cup underneath and make an automatic cup of sheer deliciousness.

This feeling of being in this cozy coffee machine of sheer luxury that had been equipped with hot warm water inside, the kind of wanted liquid ready to be used to please the great tasting flavours of a coffee lover in an instant simply continued in the second track that Laura Cavan had boiled up. It made me feel very small, but also very safe. I could sit in this coffee maker for ages, dreaming about raindrops on a attics window; it’s one of my favourites calming things to fantasise about…

When the third track came in, it was as if Laura Cavan had read my mind.. I didn’t wanted the release of sound to go anywhere. I wanted to stay inside this coffee machine and listen from this place like a voyeur to the possible human activities that might happen outside of this coffee maker. I could clearly hear someone walking around, it might be muffled but that only added more comfort to the “I’m just a microscopic figure tucked away in a coffee machine” experience.

Laura Cavan really kept on giving what I wanted to hear, kept the bubbling watery sounds as muffled and wet as they could be, while still keeping me as a listener dry and warm. I mean it wasn’t that the artist was boiling us listeners in a hot pot or anything like that; more as if we could sit dry on a bit of luxurious plastic inside as the water kept itself hot and ready to be used to flush itself through the coffee bean purée.

When track five came even the sound of the coffee maker’s inside seemed to have chilled out. In fact I must say that this was definitely the moment in which I thought that it’s quite relaxing to be here in this coffee machine with no reason to be found by an owner or operator of such an device. It feels so safe and pleasant that I can only say that it’s been a real pleasure to have been Unsuspiciously teleported into this strange situation & I’m gladly inviting you over to be in this coffee machine too. We might want to drink some coffee later if you are in need to do things after experiencing it, as it is pretty sleep inducing!

[Eg0_207] a.d.du.nord : Sana Grano (E.P.)

A.d.du.nord is a musician who doesn’t work in a particular style but is guided by ideas of the moment without feeling compelled to maintain a single sound aesthetic. His first releases have been a few minimalist drone tracks published in 2018. He now aims to create some kind of “post-music” that is “strange and dysfunctional”. In short, a.d.du.nord is a project for free experimentation, where everything is possible.

Sana Grano is some kind of mixtape that gathers ten one minute long improvised sequences created with granular synthesis tools. The choice of samples was purely intuitive, and the results are partially aleatory. But if you listen between the lines, you may find reminscences of dub and afrobeat.
